OnePlus is emerging as a company with a reputation for quick software updates for its flagship mobile phone devices. OnePlus software schedule has always been delightful to its users and now it has something more for its users to be known of.
The company has announced on its own OnePlus Forum that it will be following a strict update policy under the new “OnePlus Software Maintenance Schedule” which is effective from the day of the thread post itself.
OnePlus will be offering two years of major updates and an additional year of support for the security patches of your Android versions. That means you will be getting in a total of 3 years of security patches overall. The company also mentions that it will roll out updates every two months in the last year of the Software Maintenance Schedule.
The idea of the Oneplus software schedule is so much identical to Google’s plan for their Pixel devices but what is to be noticed is the fact that OnePlus is the only company after Google to commit such an update roadmap. Of course, Google still has the advantage of building and testing Android on its hardware first, so obviously, Pixels are likely to be the first to get the latest update. However, OnePlus is part of the Android P beta program with its OnePlus 6, which is designed & built around Project Treble’s efforts, so updates are likely to be faster than before.
OnePlus adds, “As per the maintenance schedule, there will be 2 years of regular software updates from the release date of the phone (release dates of T variants would be considered), including new features, Android versions, Android security patches and bug fixes and an additional year of Android security patch updates every 2 months.”
OnePlus compatible devices
All recent, as well as future OnePlus devices, will follow the schedule. The existing OnePlus devices to follow the new schedule are the following:
- OnePlus 3
- OnePlus 3T
- OnePlus 5
- OnePlus 5T
- OnePlus 6
OnePlus has a special announcement for its OnePlus 3/3T users that the last Open Beta build will be published later this week and at the beginning of July the stable version for Beta testers to migrate back to the stable version of OxygenOS. The device will be getting regular OTA updates till November’18 & 1 year of the extended Android security patches.
There is no doubt that the company is providing an amazing composition of hardware & software to the community and the new Oneplus Software Schedule commitment just gave its users to be proud of being a part of its community.
